Fresh 48
I love Fresh 48 sessions because they capture exactly that—a brand new baby, usually within the first 48 hours of life. Babies change so much in those first days, and being able to freeze those tiny, precious moments for parents and families is truly special.
Stress-free planning!
My Fresh 48 questionnaire helps me gather all the important details ahead of time so that when labor day arrives, everything is ready to go! It includes things like your due date, the name and address of your birth location, your partner or birth team’s contact info, and any special moments you’d love for me to capture during your session. Having this information in advance keeps things stress-free and ensures we’re completely on the same page. Once I get the “I’m in labor!” text, the only thing left to ask after baby arrives and you’re in postpartum is, “What’s your room number?”
What to Expect...
The best time for these sessions is during daylight hours—typically between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.—when natural light is at its best and babies tend to be happiest. I know schedules with siblings, family, or delivery times don’t always line up perfectly, and I’ll always do my best to work with whatever is best for your family.
Hospital lights can be harsh and unflattering, so we focus on using your room’s natural light as much as possible. We’ll position baby’s bassinet near a window and arrange family photos so everyone is glowing in the best light.
What is Captured?
This session is lifestyle-focused, meaning very little “posing” is involved. I’ll guide you and your family as needed, but the goal is to capture natural, authentic moments.
These candid, natural moments are truly the heart of a Fresh 48 session. Watching parents hold their newborn, siblings interact, and the quiet awe in everyone’s eyes is breathtaking. From a mother’s gaze to a father’s proud smile, the loving touch of siblings, and the newborn’s first looks at their parents, these fleeting moments are filled with raw, genuine emotion—and I feel so honored to capture them.
For the Parents
Outfits: While mom is recovering, I usually suggest keeping things cozy — think a soft pajama or athleisure set. Hair and makeup are completely optional—some moms prefer a quick shower and light makeup, others go all natural. Wear whatever makes you feel most comfortable and like yourself. Neutral, everyday outfits work best—robes, cardigans, or pajama sets are all great options. Dads can keep it simple with a solid t-shirt and jeans.
Siblings: If hospital policy allows, siblings are always welcome! Those first moments when big brother or sister meets the new baby are some of the sweetest memories to capture. I strongly recommend that only mom, dad, siblings, and baby are present during the session. Large gatherings can quickly overwhelm everyone and make it harder to have a quiet, relaxed, intimate session.
Getting the Hospital Room Ready
We’ll want to minimize visual distractions — that means tidying up things like extra bedding or a well-used recliner. Natural light is our best friend, so we’ll keep curtains open and the window area free of clutter.

Getting Baby Ready
I recommend having your baby fed, changed, and swaddled shortly before I arrive—this helps them be extra sleepy and cozy for the session!
Now for the fun part — baby outfits! A cute knot gown with a matching hat or bow, a fun swaddle, or even just a diaper are all perfect choices. Feel free to bring that special outfit you’ve been excited to use.
If you’ve made a name sign, birth stats board, or other little keepsake, bring it along — we can absolutely include it! One of my favorite ways to personalize the bassinet is to wrap or line it with a swaddle blanket that matches your baby’s style.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I gift a Fresh 48 session?
Absolutely! I offer gift certificates and e-gift cards, which can be found under the "Info" tab on my website.
Can I bring a special outfit or props?
I absolutely encourage parents to bring their own swaddles, hats, headbands, outfits, etc. Outfit/blanket changes for your baby are okay, as time (and baby) allows!
What happens if my baby is in the NICU?
If your baby is in the NICU, we have a couple of options. We can do a NICU Fresh 48 session, as long as the hospital’s visitor policies allow it.
Alternatively, we can switch to an in-home newborn session or a “welcome home” session once everyone is settled at home.
How long do Fresh 48 sessions last?
Fresh 48 sessions typically last between 30–60 minutes. They’re one of my quicker sessions because I know how precious those first few days are, and I want to be respectful of your family’s time. Providing me with a list of shots you’d like me to capture is always helpful! While you likely included some ideas on your Fresh 48 questionnaire, you’re welcome to email or message me additional requests at any time leading up to your session.
